Hey friends 👋
This week was all about stepping back, fine-tuning stuff, and planning. Let's get into it.
Preparing Mockup 3.6
I spent some time this week testing the upcoming Mockup update. I found minor bugs that I immediately addressed. Moreover, I fine-tuned Recents Widgets for devices running iOS 15 & 16.
The update is now ready and will be released alongside iOS 17. Apple's event today should reveal the exact date.
On the other hand, I started planning and exploring the next update! Basically, I'll be focusing on performance and user experience. In addition, I intend to rebuild some parts from scratch. I'll write more about that as I progress.
Async Work & Systems
Even though we are a small team of three people, including myself, delegating and working with others was a bit challenging at first. But, two things made it easier: async work and systems.
We do meetings every month or two, and whenever we have something new. We occasionally have quick calls to address some issues, but that's very rare. Working asynchronously has become the norm. We each work on our own time and stay updated through Notion and Discord.
But what made that possible is having systems. Almost everything has a system. From social media post planning to newsletter scheduling. These processes are well documented in Notion. Not only do they include how to do things, but also the guidelines and standards the output should adhere to, ensuring consistency and quality.
A week ago, I had several comments on a piece of content. The type of comments I had regarding that piece indicated that there was something wrong with our docs. The piece was so far from what I would've expected.
I instantly had a quick call with my copywriter where we discussed the content and the process behind it. I made sure to communicate the guidelines and we put standards together. She then updated the documents to ensure smooth flow in the future.
Having systems in place is great. However, improving them over time is critical, particularly if done by the person in charge of each process.
That's it for this week. Thank you for reading.
